Tips For Selling A Home

  • No Apologizing:
No matter how humble your abode, never apologize for its shortcomings. If a potential buyer says something dreadful about the way your home looks, let your experienced RE/MAX Realtor handle the situation

  • Be Discreet:
Everyone knows you know your home. But RE/MAX Realtors know buyers and what they need and want. Your Realtor will have an easier time showing the qualities of your home if you stay in the background.

  • Help Your Realtor:
When potential buyers want to talk about the price or terms of the house, let them speak to an expert - your Realtor. Also, your Realtor and you will have an easier time selling your home if showings are scheduled through her office.

  • Time Is Money:
Place your home on the market as far in advance as possible of purchasing a new one. If you find a new home first and then try to sell your present home, you may wind up with two mortgages.

  • Set a Fair Price:
Obviously, you want to get top dollar for your home. But, at the same time, you don't want to run off potential buyers with high price tag. Setting a high price may cause your property to stay on the market for months. Then by reducing your asking price later, it seem that something is wrong with your home.

To determine the value of your home, take the advice of a real estate agent or appraiser. Ask an Realtor to show the recent selling prices of three neighborhood properties comparable to your own. The Realtor can also help you adjust for the unique features of your property.

  • Legal Representation:
When selling your home on your own. You will want to be represented by an attorney. Look for an attorney with expertise in real estate transactions. Your attorney will be present at the actual closing to protect your interests.

  • Clean up the outside:
A home that looks in good condition will attract potential buyers.

    1. The lawn and shrubs should be maintained.
    2. The gutters, chimney and walls should be in good condition and clean.
    3. The garbage and debris should be out of sight.
    4. All lawn equipment and watering utensils should be properly stored.
    5. Make sure the garage door closed.

  • Touch up the interior:
Cleaning is the most important thing you can do. Your windows, floors and bathroom tiles should shine. Make sure you have clean heating and air conditioning filters. Shampoo carpets, clean showers, and repair dripping faucets. Get rid of any bad smells in your home. Keep your home clean and picked-up at all times.

  • Closets:
Organize your closets, they will appear larger. Get rid of some of those old clothes you don't wear anymore.

  • Always mention that your home has been well maintained.
